Project Overview

PingHeng is a stylized red panda mascot character inspired by the concept of balance (平衡).
This project focuses on developing a clean base character form with strong silhouette, simplified shape language, and game-ready topology.

Design Approach

The original concept explored a costume variation inspired by traditional elements.
For this iteration, I focused on refining the base mascot form to emphasize clarity of silhouette, material separation, and optimized game topology.
The simplified structure allows flexibility for future costume or thematic expansions.

Concept Development

The concept includes an alternate dressed version exploring cultural and narrative themes.
This project prioritizes establishing the core character foundation before expanding into costume variations.

A little bit of background story…

This character is based on our Capstone Project “ Pingheng & Plunder, “ which is a cozy co-op action adventure where you and a friend play as a serene monk red panda and a rambunctious pirate raccoon, cute little 2D sticker characters who sail together across a colorful 3D island world.

Pingheng is the steady heart of the adventure. Brave in the face of danger, calm in the middle of chaos, and wise beyond his years, he carries himself like a quiet guardian of harmony. In the game, he moves like a monk — measured, graceful, and deliberate. Every step feels intentional. Every action feels thoughtful. While others rush forward, Pingheng pauses, observes, and chooses the perfect moment to act. His strength is not loud — it is centered.

Technical Breakdown

Topology was optimized for real-time applications, maintaining clean edge flow and simplified geometry suitable for stylized deformation.
